I had high hopes for this book. In fact, I was ecstatic to have the whole series thanks to Charlotte. The description made the book seem fantastic. Sadly, the book did not reach my expectations.
The book was a cross between Twilight and The Vampire Diaries. To me, it felt like a great fanfiction. In all honesty, I thought it could be a wonderful fanfiction. However, the book seemed too close to both franchises to be considered an original work or be published. The story was okay. Because the plot was similar to Twilight, I felt like I already read it. The concept was great and again, the story was incredible for a spinoff of Twilight. The romance in the story was not my favorite. I don't like when a character falls in love at first sight. Also, the chemistry felt rushed. My advice to Charlotte is to make the characters' relationships develop slower to build anticipation. The characters were okay. There was a lack of development which made it harder to connect with them. In the next novel, I would like to see more backstories and development. Overall, I wanted more. It wasn't awful but I wished for better. I hope to see more originality in the upcoming books. I wish that Charlotte's other books will take a new perspective on the series. I can see the potential in the story.
